  9. greatly intensified form of the written word, it is insatiable for 
  10. intense or sensational materials to broadcast. This fact is no 
  11. more basic for the understanding of current newspapers than 
  12. for an appreciation of what was happening to language and 
  13. expression in the sixteenth century:
